Living in a small 60 m2 apartament in Madrid. Rent + Groceries + Bills + Transport = 1.500€/month just to survive. We are two. I'm engineer with a 1.700€ salary, my gf architect with a 1.300€ salary. We need to save money just in case we lost our jobs or to afford unforeseen things. We have a decent quality level of living but very little place to add a baby to the family.

I'm making $21 per hour, minimum wage here is $14 per hour, but all my bills combined come to $2500 per month i average $3600 per month but take home is about $2800. Not a great financial platform to have a child. Also the housing market is chaos here! My parents bought a 10 yr old 2 story house on a corner property for $280k 11 years ago, it's now valued at $595k. How can the next generation afford such a house? We can't. The cost of living is simply overwhelming.

Lol in the past you could buy a house, get many kids and have a good rent and this with only ONE income while the woman (usually) stayed home and had time to raise the kids. Nowadays you cannot even afford this living-standard with 2 incomes plus you never see your kids because they are in daycare in order to be able to work 24/7.

This is sadly true. I've been stuck in a shitty, tiny ass studio that in all honesty shouldn't even be called 'an appartament' by law, just because it's the only thing I could afford working full time. Cost of living and rent are pure insanity now. There are months were I need to borrow money for food, or you know, not pay bills and then deal with that bullshit. Welcome to the 21st century.

Good, less me people, less money the government gets. Treat your people like shit and they stop making babies. It's like taking a toy away from a child when they do wrong. What if this continues? If you have a kid when you are 15 year old ppl say you are not responsable, having a kid when you cant even provide for yourself. Guess what? I am almost 30, working for years now and i barely make enough money for myself. I dont want to have a kid because i dont have money for it. I am Just being responsable. In the 50's one person worked and was able to provide for an entire family. Now you work to pay a rent, some bills and survive the rest of the month. Not enough babies is a consequence of the lack of conditions, not a lack of responsability.

my grandparents genertion: inherited large amounts of land, houses were relatively inexpensive to build. my parents generation: just moved into whatever their parents build and bought some furniture. my generation: expected to move out, pay rent/get a loan of 1/2 of what we earn since our grandparents live till 90y. o.

There has been a population decrease since the early 90s. But you are talking 0.01% to 0.06% decrease per year, usually closer to the 0.01%. these stats take birth into account as well as death. People dying will raise the decrease percentage. I know this much, the poor are using children as an advantage because you get credits for each child you claim on your taxes. The more children you have the more money you get when tax season rolls in. People will not work, just pump out a bunch of kids and live off government welfare. I know personally several people and "families" that do this.
